In this class you will learn to make a Neckline Clip that features one of the shapes from my eBook: "Shapes: 25 Inspirational Jewellery Designs in Polymer Clay". This design features lots of curves with 3 dimensional form, a bold focal point (stacked buttons), a lovely spiral tail and negative space that contributes additional line interest and give a light and open quality to the design. The piece you will create can be worn both clipped to the neckline of your clothing, as well as strung on cording as a pendant.
I will guide you step by step through this project. We begin by applying a subtle texture to your clay in your chosen color. I will bring various texture options to choose from. We will use 2 sizes of pod-shaped cutters to achieve our shape with a beautiful beveled outer edge. You will learn to apply a gradation of 2 colors of mica powders for a lustrous surface effect. Next we take our flat shape and bring it to life with lots of curves. A special support form is needed to maintain these curves through the curing process. You will make your custom support form from scrap clay. After curing, a gloss sealant will be applied and the button focal point will be attached. As well, a jewelry finding will be attached as our clip. Recently I have started using a 2 part epoxy called Apoxie Sculpt as an adhesive. I will supply this and discuss the advantages of using this product.
I will bring many examples of jewelry I've made featured in my Shapes book to inspire you to all the possibilities and the versatility of the "Shapes" technique of jewelry design.
